When the FundaVida volunteers first met Moises he didn’t talk much, had little self-confidence and got into trouble constantly. They invited him to be part of their robotics team where he learned computer programming.
As his skills increased, his attitude changed. Moises recently represented FundaVida at the Costa Rica National Robotics Olympics. Inspired by his team’s success, he said “I know what I need to do to be successful – study hard, pass high school and go onto college.”
We met Mariam this summer in Costa Rica.
GO THE SECOND MILE’S team worked alongside FundaVida, our partner in San Jose, Costa Rica, to offer a vision clinic for families living in poverty in one of the roughest neighborhoods. Mariam is studying to complete her high school degree and was struggling to see the board. Her new glasses enable her to keep attending school. Her hope is to get her high school diploma and qualify for a better job to support her family.
